Lash Extension Aftercare
Below is in-depth list of how to take care of your lash extensions! If you have any other questions for us, feel free to shoot us a message and we'll reply at our earliest availability!
Immediately after your appointment...
- Feel free to get your lashes wet! The adhesive and superbonder make it so the extensions are able to get wet within three minutes of leaving your appointment.
- Try to avoid touching the lashes / eye area with your fingers. Your fingers have oils, of course, but any sort of rubbing, pulling the eyelid around, adjusting the lashes with your fingers, picking at the lashes etc, can disrupt the bond of the extensions. If you need to, brush through your lashes with the complimentary lash wand provided at your appointment, and otherwise try not to mess with them too much (outside of necessary cleansing).
Aftercare...
How often should I be cleansing my lashes?
- Daily! Without cleansing your lashes, dirt, debris, makeup, and other irritants can build up around the eye, causing poor lash retention and potentially discomfort to the eye itself. You must cleanse your lashes daily to maintain a clean, healthy lashline -- your lashes will hold on longer for it!
- Make sure to cleanse your lashes after intense workouts, swimming, or crying. Sweat, tears, and pool or ocean water can have irritants, oils, or salts that affect the adhesive and/or irritate the eye area. Give your lashes a quick cleanse and they'll thank you!
What cleanser should I use?
- You will be provided a complimentary cleanser during your initial set or fill appointment. This cleanser is guaranteed to work well with the lash adhesive, so it is the one I recommend using!
- If you prefer using your own cleanser, that is fine, but I can't guarantee it will work well with the adhesive.
- I also request to avoid using any oily sort of cleanser 2 days before your fill. This includes: micellar water; CeraVe; Cetaphil. The issue with these cleansers is that they do tend to have moisturizing ingredients that are absorbed by your lashes -- when your lashes are effectively conditioned by these cleansers, they become too slick for the adhesive to stick properly and it affects the ability to attach the extension.
Do I need to brush my lashes?
- Yes. Though you don't need to do it frequently, it is recommended to brush your lashes when you wake up in the morning as well as after you cleanse the lashes. This just keeps them looking tidy during your day to day. They can't get tangled like the hair on your head, though, so no need to brush intensely!
Do I have to change how I sleep?
- Not necessarily. Keep in mind, though:
- If you sleep on your side, the lashes on that side will fall out sooner due to the friction of your face against the pillow.
- If you sleep on your face, your lashes will have a worse wear overall due to the lashes being squished and rubbed against the pillow.
Can I still go to the spa / sauna / etc with my lashes?
- Yes! The adhesive is cured immediately after your appointment, so feel free to get them damp -- the lashes will stay intact. If you're worried, just let your spa technician know you're wearing lash extensions.

Can the extensions be damaged?
- Yes, by high heat. A sauna, a hot tub, or a blowdryer are all fine, but an open flame (such as a lighter, bonfire, or gas stove) or bursts of heat (such as the wave of heat that comes out of the oven when you initially open it) can cause the lashes to become singed at the tips.
- This won't cause the lashes to melt, it will only bend the extensions at the tips, and we will replace them during your next fill appointment, so no worries.
Other concerns...
My lashes are all falling out! What happened?
- Is there a natural lash attached to the extension?
If yes, no worries -- you just may be in the middle of a shedding cycle. It's normal to lose anywhere from 2 to 5 lashes per day, but there certainly can be more than that falling out.
For example, we tend to lose more lashes around the change of the seasons, or even if there have been weather extremes (hot one day, cold the next).
As well, any medical changes (diet, exercise, medication, stress levels, pregnancy, surgery, etc) also tend to put stress on the hair follicles, resulting in a more rapid shed while your body re-adjusts. This adjustment can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months, so it is advised to either book fills sooner while your loss is still more extreme, or, in extreme cases, to take a break from lashes for at least a complete lash cycle (3 months.)
If you have been crying more than usual, having more severe allergies, or picking at your lashes from stress, this can also result in lashes shedding sooner. In these cases, though, you may be causing damage to your natural lashes. If there is any damage to your natural lashes, we'll bring it up at your next appointment -- there is never any judgement when we do, only concern for the health of your natural lashes.
Wearing more makeup than usual can also result in more frequent shedding, as with cleansing your makeup to ensure your lashes are clean, sometimes the friction will cause the lashes to shed. This is totally fine, we'd rather work with clean lashes than risk irritation and damage due to leftover makeup! Just request a longer fill to ensure we get your lashes back where they need to be.

- Are the extensions shedding alone?
This tends to indicate either an issue with the application, or a product being used that affects the adhesive. In either case, please reach out to us immediately so we can work on troubleshooting the complication. Our goal is for your lashes to last, after all.
